The impossibility of Communication

Communication is impossible. Think about it. What are you doing when you have a conversation with someone?

You’re building a bridge from your mind to theirs and you use noise produced by vocal cords influenced by different parts of your mouth to form sounds that communicate thoughts…your thoughts!

Think about it, your words transfer feelings and ideas! It’s an impossible feat but it works.

We learn from the bible that God is a communicator; He created the universe by speaking and it is recorded that God the Father, God the Son and God the Holy Spirit spoke to each other. Then God said, “Let us make human beings in our image, to be like us.”Genesis 1:26

Communication and speaking, the sharing of ideas, the sharing of feelings is a gift from God to human beings.

It’s one of the things that separates us from the rest of creation.

And so, in the likeness of God, we communicate, we talk and we achieve the impossible by taking abstract ideas and feelings that exist only in our minds and through the verbal construction of a bridge we assign physical representation to our abstract thoughts and send them through the bridge. Then the impossible happens. You understand.

“A word aptly spoken is like apples of gold in settings of silver…” Proverbs 25:11

God has, in his infinite wisdom, decided to partner with us. Think about that. God the Creator of the universe wants to partner with us!

We have this God given ability to speak and the Creator, out of all creation, gives us the opportunity to join Him in speaking the very words of God to the world.

Weak, insignificant human beings saved by grace and powered by the Holy Spirit become the very mouth of God!

At the much time is spent preparing students to become communicators, and as a former student of the , I am immensely thankful for the training that I received at the Missionary Training Center!
